Work at the Quarry Landfill this week included installing meters dedicated to monitoring landfill liquids and stormwater. Crews also continued fine-tuning the vertical gas wells and the Sidewall Odor Mitigation System (SOMS) to maximize landfill gas extraction. At the adjacent, older landfill site, installation of the final closure cover system is ongoing. We anticipate neighbors may experience increased odor resulting from the change in seasons from warmer to colder weather. This type of periodic fluctuation is not unexpected as we continue the extensive remediation work at the landfill. Engineers are currently reinforcing the lining in key places along the sidewall and also sealing portions of the rock face around the landfill to decrease any emissions from those sources.
