City leaders met with officials from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) this week to review progress made in the effort to mitigate odors at the Bristol Quarry Landfill. The group met at City Hall and toured the landfill where they discussed accomplishments over the past two years and next steps in the process going forward.
Also this week, DEQ issued an air permit for the new permanent flare that will be installed at the landfill. This is a significant step in the gas extraction upgrades being implemented.
Two heavy rainfalls at the landfill last week resulted in sediment runoff from the property. The City self-reported the issue and is proceeding with clean-up and repair plans.
