The City of Bristol hosted an Open House in its City Council chambers on Wednesday evening to share updates on the remediation efforts at the Quarry Landfill. More than a dozen local residents asked questions and shared feedback with the two experts assisting the City; Dr. Craig Benson – Professor Emeritus at the UVA School of Engineering and Stantec’s Dr. Deborah Gray – a Public Toxicologist with the City’s engineering firm. The City also provided handouts outlining an annual update of significant progress made and what’s still to come at the landfill. A copy of the handout can be found here.
Meanwhile at the Quarry Landfill this week, crews completed the process of removing the old leachate overflow tank from the site. As the remediation work moves forward, the City plans to install a new, larger flare and an equalization tank as part of an improved and more efficient leachate treatment system at the landfill.
