Improvements to the Sidewall Odor Mitigation System (SOMS) at the Bristol Quarry Landfill are nearly complete bringing the system closer to full capacity. SOMS efficiencies are now 100% complete on the west side of the landfill (up from 90% two weeks ago) and remain at 90% capacity on the east side of the landfill (the same level for several weeks). Fine-tuning of piping in the SOMS system was also conducted this week with the arrival of warmer temperatures that allow the piping to expand.
The restored stormwater pump again operated effectively with this week’s rain to remove surface water from the landfill.
Bristol offices are closed April 18 for Good Friday. Solid Waste Collection originally scheduled for Friday, April 18 will now take place on Monday, April 21.
