Heavy rain, sleet, and snow this week have made access to the Bristol Quarry Landfill challenging. The conditions prevented the movement of additional soil to address settlement issues at the landfill. Crews also discovered that the stormwater flow meter is not working properly. A section of piping appeared to be clogged and was preventing the water from reaching the flow meter. Stormwater is now being redirected through the forced main until the section can be addressed and fixed.
Additionally, a small number of temperature probes at various elevations in the waste mass are showing erroneous temperature readings. These probes are located in the southern region of the landfill, and we are working with our engineering partners to develop a plan to address this issue. Replacing the probes in the existing wells is a possible option but the small diameter of the wells makes it a complicated process that ultimately may not fully resolve the issue. Drilling new wells is another option under consideration.
