Winterization activities are ongoing at the Bristol Quarry Landfill. The flare had a slight drop in pressure this week due to ice buildup on a condensate line. The ice was cleared and flow restored to normal levels. Maintenance activities conducted this week included checking the wellfield, replacing some field batteries, gas sampling, break down/cleaning/rebuilding of pumps, and adjusting the Sidewall Odor Mitigation System (SOMS). Nearby residents may have noticed, and may continue to notice, large equipment being used to move on-site soil to the Quarry Landfill to address settlement areas. Additionally, during 2024, the city used soil from this location on landfill property to assist the final closing of the old 498 landfill. The city uses this on-site soil to help reduce the financial burden associated with the need for soil for various landfill tasks.
