The City of Bristol is pleased to announce it has hired Laura Socia as the new Director of Solid Waste. Ms. Socia, who was previously with Dominion Energy where she served as an environmental compliance manager, will oversee remediation efforts at the Quarry Landfill beginning on January 3. She possesses extensive knowledge of environmental compliance programs along with significant experience managing industrial landfills as a licensed waste management operator for almost 14 years. Ms. Socia also previously worked for the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for 7 years in the hazardous/solid waste financial assurance and air monitoring departments. She holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in environmental studies from Longwood University, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the College of William & Mary. Bristol Mayor Neal Osborne stated of Socia’s hiring, “We are very excited to have Laura join our team and believe her knowledge and experience will greatly benefit the City and the community as we continue to move forward with the remediation efforts at the Quarry Landfill.”
