The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) made an unannounced visit to the Quarry Landfill this week. The EPA conducted real-time air emissions monitoring at and around the landfill. No elevated emissions levels were observed. The EPA will issue an inspection report within 60 days, and we will share that report with the community.
Separately, it has been determined that some temperature probes at the landfill are inaccurately reporting temperatures, which are lower than the probe reports. The city is working with its engineering firm to replace the malfunctioning probes.
Other activities at the landfill this week included the addition of soil around areas of settlement and other general maintenance.
